Term 2

In the last few weeks we have been working in Maths on time, subtraction and decimals.  One Maths group did work based on timetables, adding and subtracting units of time and reading stop watches and time events and the other group’s work was based on timetables, using a calendar and adding and subtracting units of time.  We then did some revision work on subtraction of ThHTU. We are now working on decimals, one group consolidating what they have already learned and the other group being introduced to decimal numbers.

In Language we have been doing our spelling work each week with our homework words, there has been a writing activity like writing their own spooky Halloween story, writing a persuasive letter to a high street company to ask them to use Fairtrade cotton to help the Indian farmers and this week the children will be writing an imaginative story of their own trying to focus on a good opening, a build up to a problem, a resolution and then an ending. The other language work we have done has been based on our class novel ‘Journey to the River Sea’ by Eva Ibbotson which the children seem to be enjoying.

Our Learning Journey has mostly been about India.  We have found out about the Indian Farmers planting cotton and their working conditions, ethical trading, Fairtrade, we have looked into Indian schools and compared them to our own, we made some beautiful Taj Mahal pictures and we are about to see, think and wonder about Indian homes this week. As well as that we have been learning a bit about Hinduism, about St Andrew the patron saint of Scotland and we have made some lovely Christmas decorations.

As well as that we also have had lots of activities organised for Scottish Book Week last week some of which have had to be this week due to the couple of days we were not here.

We are now spending some time practicing our song for the school Christmas Concert and hope if you are coming that you will enjoy it.
